Blaze was walking through the house, searching for the bathroom Chuck had directed her to, when she passed a room with a TV inside. For some reason, it had been left on, and a few words drifted out of it to reach her ears as she passed by. "Waiwaiwait. Monarchy? How can you take a nation that still hasn't developed democracy and call it NOT EVIL? I say we invade. Bring democracy to the Sol universe! I'm looking at you, Mr. President. I think the King of Sol called you a wuss."Blaze dropped Cream in surprise.

The girl let out a startled yelp as she landed unceremoniously on her tail. She sat up immediately, rubbing her backside with a pained "Owwww..."

Blaze dove into the room and gripped the television between both hands as it continued discussing her home dimension. "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!" INVASION? The people of this world were planning to enter her own through the rip? What madness! If they did that, they'd wind up in Eggman Nega's base! For them, that was the equivalent of suicide! Blaze watched some canine antho onscreen discuss this with all the calmness of a man in a sauna, her mouth slightly agape. She should've known that news about the rip would've spread by now. Looking back, Blaze realized she'd been a fool to think she could've kept it quiet, especially while the portal itself was still looming ominously in the sky above Night Carnival. But still, invasion? She had underestimated the stupidity of this world's occupants. This was awful. Someone had to stop them before they dove headfirst into the frying pan...but who? She was still trying to find the Sol Emeralds and her misplaced people besides. She had no time to sit at the portal and play guard. Something else occured to her. Never mind actually getting through the portal, anyone who even tried getting near it was at risk. Eggman Nega would likely be guarding the entire area with his robots; having the other side be inside his base made that all the more convenient for him. How many robots of his had he already transported to this world? Did he even now have an army of them ready and waiting to sweep across the landscape and merge with the army controlled by Eggman? Had she already lost the battle without knowing it? Blaze sagged, slowly drooping to sit on the floor as the total, devestating enormity of the task ahead of her hit like a two-ton lead weight. What would she do once she'd found the emeralds and the misplaced Sol citizens? How could she transport them all safely back home through a probable combined army of robots on both sides of the portal? She thought of herself as a pretty good fighter, but the possibility of enough Negabots to drown in coming at her all at once entered her mind and filled her heart with fear. She would have a hard enough time by herself, let alone trying to protect who knew how many people with her. Blaze clenched her eyes shut, and turned the TV off. Now, more than ever before, she felt the urge to break down and cry. She hadn't wanted this, at all. Why did it have to be so impossible? Why couldn't she have lived up to the expectations set by her predecessors? Every time she thought about it, she kept coming to the same conclusion; the entire situation was her fault in the first place. If she hadn't let Nega steal the Sol Emeralds, things might've... She violently shook her head, struggling to tear the accusing vindictive thoughts out of her head. But they refused to budge. It's all your fault, they whispered, preying on her mind like jackals. Those people will never see their families again, and both dimensions will eventually collapse with the Sol Emeralds here. It's your fault..."No," she protested weakly, not even aware she was speaking aloud. "Stop it..." Your fault..."I said stop it! Shut up!" YOUR FAULT, YOUR FAULT, YOUR FAULT!"SHUT UUUUP!" She screamed at the ceiling, her hands clenched in a white-knuckled grip on either side of her head, before collapsing in a trembling heap on her side. Quiet sobs filled the air.

The rabbit stood indecisive, wondering what had happened to the cat. She knew she had just witnessed something powerful, and that Blaze was hurting right now on a level she couldn't fully understand. It pained her to see her friend like this, and she felt she had to do something, to say something, to try to relieve the awful emotions both of them were currently feeling. "B-Blaze...I, I--"

Blaze sank back down and curled up into a fetal position, wrapping her tail around her legs. The fact that she'd now rejected Cream like that only added to her inner pains, but she didn't have the strength to get up and go apologize. Not now. Not anymore. She buried her forehead in her knees, silent tears streaming down both cheeks.

Speaking of Sonic, where was -he- at this whole time? Well, he was pacing around his room, having been sent there by his stern and slightly insane Uncle. He came to a stop as he huffed, muttering a few things along the lines of 'Can't take a joke..' or 'not like HE'S sexy at all, th' old coot..' Glancing around his room, he had to think of something to do. He was obviously going to be here for a while. What was a bald hedgehog to do with his spare time, anyway? As he looked around the room, his eye seemed to have caught something... A can of Spray-On Hair. A can of blue Spray-On Hair. A little tag tied to it read 'To Sonic. From Chuck; With love and death. :3' "... ... ... How convenient." Sonic grabbed the can, and was about to get to work on spraying himself down, when he heard a sort of a wailing sound coming down the hall to one of the bathrooms near his room. Sonic paused for a moment, but he was able to recognize that pitiful sound from anywhere. Cream.Forgetting the spray for now, Sonic tossed on a towel around his waist, and threw one over his head, and stepped out of his room to intercept the little rabbit before she could lock herself up from the rest of the world somewhere. "Cream...? What's the matter?"

Poor Cream. The little bunny rabbit didn't know where to go or what to do at first; one of her best friends had just flat-out yelled at her to get lost, when all she'd been trying to do was help. Her mind was a jumble of confusion and panic. But then she'd remembered that there was one person left here who could possibly provide some comfort for her. Mister Sonic. She crashed into him, eyes clenched shut and wailing her head off. Even if her eyes had been open, it would've been impossible to see his nudity through the tears. She was just absolutely heartbroken and shattered at that moment. In many ways, this cold unhappy feeling weighing her down felt similar to when Blaze had first left to go back to her home dimension...however, in many ways, it was also worse. The first time had been a necessary separation, one required by fate. THIS separation had been a willing one; Blaze had WANTED Cream to go away and not come back, and it was her choice to do so. The betrayal bit deep into the little girl's mind, tearing her apart from the inside. Cream tried to speak up and explain what had happened to Sonic, opening her mouth to form the words, but her throat clenched up and choked her off before she could utter a sound. The only thing she was able to produce were more tears.

Sonic glanced down at the blubbering Cream, who was so distressed, she couldn't even speak without letting loose even more sobs and tears... Oh, and she had apparently showered in Toxic Waste, if that scent was any indication. Hoo boy. What do you do in this kind of situation? Well, for Sonic... "Ho'kay Cream. Um... For starters, you might want to go take a shower reeeeally soon before you get yourself sick..." He kneeled down and patted her shoulder comfortingly. ("Good thing I'm wearing gloves, ick...") "Now, calm down, alright? Don't act so overwhelmed. Take it easy, and tell me what's going on." Sonic? Being so kind and courteous to a girl? Well, Cream was somewhat of an exception; She was still a child, so she needed kindness in situations like these. However, you can bet your dollar he'd still be avoiding Amy like none other.

Cream was now fully aware of how she smelled and how filthy she looked. It just made her cry harder. But Sonic's uneasy words of comfort got through; she began to calm down, slowly but surely, until her sobs dwindled to hiccups. "I-it's Blaze," She began in a trembling voice. "She...she's *hic* hurting so bad right now, Mister S-Sonic. And I c-can't *hic* help her..." Her big brown eyes began tearing up again. "I tried to help, really I did! B-but she just *hic* told me to go away..." She buried her face in the blue hedgehog's chest. "Please m-make her feel better, Mister Sonic," her muffled voice begged. "I know y-you can *hic* do it..."

The hedgehog frowned slightly. No, he honestly wasn't the best with this sort of thing, but he was good enough, apparently, to get Cream to calm down slightly and give him a direct answer. So, he pieced the puzzle together in his head to figure out what the heck was going on. Blaze, apparently so utterly -distraught-, got so bad that she reached a point where she even lashed out at -Cream-, and now, the rabbit was requestion his assistance. He sighed, and silently pondered to himself.. Yeeeeah... This is gonna be -fun-...He gave Cream a couple of pats on the head. "Alright. I'll go talk to her. In the meantime, get yourself cleaned up, kiddo. I'll meet up with you later." And thus, a blur concluded that Sonic had revved up the engines and was speeding to Blaze... Which was probably totally unneccessary, but he wanted to get to the bottom of things quick. Upon coming within a few feet from the distressed feline, Sonic stopped short, and simply walked the final few steps closer to Blaze. He glanced down at her. "Yo." Before the talking could start, he first had to get her attention, the familiar Soniccy way... All he could do was hope she would cooperate.

Blaze curled up into an even tighter ball. She knew that voice -- still just as c0cky and self-assured as the first time she'd heard it. It brought to mind images of blue wind and glowing gold, a newfound friendship and a promise fulfilled. She gritted her teeth as mortal embarrassment made itself known. It was bad enough that Cream had seen her in this state, but now Sonic? Mere words could not describe her horror at the situation she now found herself in. She would NEVER live this down. And no matter how much she desperately wished it at that moment, she couldn't stop crying. She silently cursed the tears that even now shamed her deeply. It seemed as if whatever had overcome Cream earlier had infected her too, and it refused to relent its firm grasp of her emotions. "Go away Sonic," she choked out at last, shaking her head slowly and covering her face to hide it from view. "Please. Don't look at me...not like this..."

He tilted his head to one side as she spoke to him. When she finally got it out, Sonic sighed a little. "C'mon, Blaze... Stop feelin' ashamed. This is your pal Sonic you're talkin' to; You don't need to be ashamed in front of me. I mean... c'mon, look at -me-. I look like a peach straight outta the supermarket." He lowered himself to one knee next to her, and... ... -gently- pet her behind the ears for a second. Normal cats enjoyed that sort of thing, so... why not Blaze? In Sonic's mind, that sort of thing should -comfort- the one on the recieving end. But only time would tell. Again, Sonic had to play the waiting game. "C'mon. Let me in, Blaze. We're friends, remember?" Friends...

Friends... Blaze began trembling violently as her mind spun out of control through a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. They WERE friends, she and Sonic. He'd shown her the last time they'd met that it was okay to open up every once in a while. Could she trust him though? Would he accept her? What if she was just setting herself up to be hurt again? Somewhere deep inside of her, a tiny kitten mewled in distress, warning her that Sonic may taunt and tease her just like those other children who had mercilessly tormented her during childhood, causing her to start wearing the dampening cape that kept her body from emitting flames involuntarily. But Blaze's grown mind fought back, arguing that Sonic had been kind and caring enough when they'd last been together, always mindful of her feelings and others'. The sides debated back and forth with no clear winner. It was a stalemate... Blaze peeked around her hands at Sonic, the tears plainly visible on her face as wet streaks. "I..." She studied his expression. Caring. Concerned. He really did want to help her. The kitten cried out as it was overcome and squelched under a sudden tidal wave of emotion. Blaze's mind surfed the wave easily. "Oh Sonic, I'm sorry!" The hedgehog was subject to a tight embrace for the second time that day as Blaze leaped up and buried her face in his shoulder. "I'm so sorry I burned you like that! I swear I didn't mean to!" Her voice hitched, and for a moment she wondered why he bothered to continue caring for her after she had twice wounded him, probably embarrassing him just as much as she currently was, if not more. Sudden guilt weighed her down, making her legs feel weak. She didn't deserve anything near what she was currently getting from him. Her heart beat wildly at the thought that he was honestly just that nice. Why did she feel so dizzy...? She held onto the hedgehog tighter for support, not caring that his spines were piercing her skin. "Don't go," She begged, in a suddenly weak voice. "Please don't go." And then she cried silently, feeling more open and vulnerable than she ever had before. It was a scary feeling...but with Sonic there, it didn't seem as bad as she thought it'd be.

Sonic... blinked. She must have been battling some -serious- emotions, because with one swift movement to a hug, they all came -spilling- out. The fact she was squeezing tighter, as if he was about to disappear forever that exact moment, told -him- that she seriously needed some help. He wasn't much of the hugging type, or touchy-feely, or anything, but this moment was a -clear- exception. He returned her hug and pattd her comfortingly on the back, maneuvering himself so that she didn't impale herself on his spines. "Shhh shhh... It's okay, Blaze, I'm not goin' anywhere... I'm right here, ready to listen... Don't worry about the burning from earlier. I'm still livin', a little lost fur isn't NEAR enough to drive me off... It's alright. Friends have little scuffles like that every so often. It's all good, it's all good... Now, calm down, and let me in that head of yours... Tell me what's troubling you." He meant every word. This 'hog was going to listen.

Blaze sniffed and futilely tried to ease off on the waterworks. God, she was right, he did care...he cared about her when nobody else ever had, or at least not on this personal of a level...it made her feel sad and elated and humble and angry and compassionate and grateful and a dozen other emotions she couldn't properly identify. It was useless to try sorting through them all; her mind gave up on it and just let them run their course. They suggested so many different ways of handling the situation that Blaze couldn't decide on any one course of action, so she just stood there unmoving and nuzzled his shoulder. He felt so warm...again the dizziness came, and with it a strange flip-flopping feeling in her stomach. Blaze wondered if she was sick. For some reason the thought didn't worry her; nothing seemed like it could worry her at that moment. Finally she realized that Sonic was waiting for an answer and she had to give him one. So with a heavy swallow and a feeling of regret, she released him and backed away to an appropriate distance. A tinge of red came to her cheeks as it occured to her that she'd been hugging a naked person. Real princess-y behavior right there. Rubbing her eyes to wipe away the tears was a pointless gesture, but she did it anyway. She was mentally berating herself for having lost control like that; releasing some of those pent-up emotions may have felt good, sure, but it didn't help to solve her problems. For a moment she attempted to regain her cool-headed mask, but then decided: what was the point? There was no way she could pretend to be like that around Sonic after what he'd just witnessed. With a small sigh, she gave him a heartfelt and grateful smile. "Thank you Sonic...to tell you the truth, I'm just depressed over my situation." She waved her arms around to indicate the general state of affairs. "I dunno if Cream told you why I'm here, but basically Nega stole the Sol Emeralds again and in the process of stealing them back, I got sent here...which caused not only the emeralds to disperse, but made who-knows-how-many of the people from my dimension get transported here as well. I've gotta find the emeralds as well as any misplaced citizens, escort them over to the portal in Night Carnival which is probably guarded by Nega now, get them all through it and out the other side, which happens to be smack in the middle of Eggman Nega's base, and THEN get them all back home safely." Thinking about it all made the tears threaten to come again. This time Blaze refused to cooperate and clamped down viciously on the welling emotions within her. Still, her face gave away her inner turmoil as she said, "It just seems...kinda impossible, you know?" Her voice had cracked when she spoke that sentence. She attempted to exert some more control over it as she continued. "The worst thing is that it's all my fault in the first place...I was stupid and overconfident and let the emeralds get stolen by Nega. If I'd just remembered some of the lessons I'd learned from the last time this had happened, things would've been different..." Her face screwed up with the effort of keeping her sorrow in check. Damn it, she really wasn't helping herself at all. Her eyes began watering and she hurriedly wiped them again. "I'd be able to maybe help escort a few people if I could just find all the Sol Emeralds and turn into Burning Blaze, but what if it's not just a few people? What if it's a hundred? What if an entire city from my dimension became engulfed by a freak temporary portal and transported here?" Her defenses took another hard blow and weakened, though they still held. "And even if it is only a few people, how will I find them? I can't track them like I can the emeralds. It was pure luck that I ran into Katie as it is...I could try searching for them, but chances are I will never find them all in the amount of time we have left before both dimensions are destroyed by the rip...some of the people that are depending on me for a rescue will never see their families and homes again. They'll be exiled from everything they knew for the rest of their lives." Aaaand there it was: the breaking point. Blaze covered her face as once again her tear ducts were put to use. "I just don't know what to do anymore...I'm a horrible princess and a horrible guardian, just look at what I've let happen..." The cat's legs refused to hold her up; they shook wildly then gave out. She collapsed to her knees and bowed her head, her tail drooping limply behind her.

Sonic listened to every word that Blaze said to him, processing every piece of information that he recieved. He could be seen muttering little things like 'so -that-'s why...' or 'now I understand...'. The hedgehog was beginning to understand just why Blaze was here, why many others were too, who was behind it, what was going on... It all made sense. Now it was up to Sonic to set things back in proper perspective, and get Blaze back on her feet again, metaphorically, and literally. "Blaze, Blaze, Blaze..." He -smiled-, and chuckled. "Just what did I get through showing you -last- time you were here?" He glanced at her, raising her chin up to have her face him directly into his eyes. "You're not alone in this, you know. Not anymore. You have friends, allies... Those willing to help out. You gotta remember that you shouldn't just carry the world on your shoulders, Blaze. Sure, this could have been avoided, but.. are you honestly completely at fault? These things happen, and when you get stuck in a hard place, you have friends that are there to help you out." He grinned. "We're in this together, and if I have anything to say about it, we'll get everything taken care of, believe you me!" He stood tall and stretched. "First things first... We gotta let it be known that there are possibly those from Sol who may be here via that accident you described to me. Posters, through the media, newspapers, whatever it may be. We let it be known, and let those stuck here come forward if they're from Sol. In the meantime, we get those Sol Emeralds collected. If they were used to create that portal from Negaman's base, then we could likely do the same on our end, and place the destination elsewhere. And if we can't? Well, looks like we got some tail to kick in Sol before we let people go through, don't we?" He helped Blaze stand back up, and placed hands on either shoulder, looking her in the eye with that casual Soniccy expression he's always known to have. "We'll beat this, Blaze. So, chin up. You mighta lost the battle, but now we're gonna win the war! You get me? After I get things ironed out here, let's get to work! What do you say?"

Something sparked in Blaze's eyes as she listened to Sonic's words. Something bright, and gleaming. Something she had not had for a long time now. It was hope. A surge went through her body as adrenaline kicked in, and the cat's purple fur stood on end. As if struck by lightning, she was suddenly spurred into motion as she leaped up and grabbed Sonic's shoulders again, giving him the most intense stare he'd ever seen. "Yes, that's it," She muttered. "That's it! Sonic, thank you!" What happened next was purely the product of the uplifting, inspired feelings the cat was going through. Without thinking about what she was doing, she gave the blue hedgehog in front of her a quick peck on the lips and a sincere hug, before turning and dashing from the room. "Cream! Cream, where are you? Where did you go...?" She could be heard calling out in the hallways as she hunted for her rabbit partner. Cream was getting out of the shower after a long (and desperately needed) bath, finally looking and smelling decent enough to rejoin society. She wrapped a towel around herself (which was a rather easy task considering her tiny size; in fact, the towel was so long in comparison that she had to wrap it around herself almost three times). She looked up, startled, as she faintly heard her name be called out. "I'm in here!" She yelled. "WHERE'S 'HERE'?" Blaze called out in reply, still hunting through every room in the abode. "The bathroom! Let me get dressed and I'll be right out!" She hurried to find her clothes, and realized (to her infinite dismay) that they were still all icky from the garbage she'd fallen into. She hadn't had the foresight to bring along another clean pair, either... "Oh, sugar," She grumbled, stomping her foot in frustration. Her mother likely would've gasped and smacked her on the head for such impolite and immature behavior, but her mother wasn't here right now, so... "BLAZE!" Cream called out. "MY CLOTHES ARE STILL DIRTY! WHAT SHOULD I DO?" The cat had finally pinpointed which door the rabbit's voice was emerging from behind. "Lemme have them and I'll put them in the washing machine for you," she offered. Cream was dubious. "How?" "I'll open the door just enough to reach in, and you hand them to me, okay?" She smiled slightly, picturing how flustered the young rabbit must be getting about all of this. Apparently Cream was at that age where privacy needed to be respected at all costs. Luckily, Blaze had picked up on this during their travels. Cream hesitated for a moment before she finally nodded. "Okay, but don't peek!" Blaze rolled her eyes, although the rabbit couldn't see it. "Cream, we're both girls. You don't have anything I haven't seen before." " Blaze!!" "All right, all right. I won't." The cat smiled, opening the door just enough to stick her paw in and no more, as promised. She felt weight hit her palm a moment later and withdrew her hand, shutting the door immediately afterwards. "I'll go put these in the washing machine and let you know when they're done, okay?" "All right. Um, Blaze, one more thing..." Cream hesitated slightly before continuing. "About what happened earlier..." The purple princess paused, hesitating as well. Truth be told, in the frenzy of her sudden excitement she'd momentarily forgotten what had happened between her and Cream the last time they'd talked to each other. "Uh, yeah. About that..." She bowed her head and continued in a more somber tone, "I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings, Cream. I was just being stupid, is all. Sonic managed to snap me out of it though, so I'm okay now." Far from having her feelings hurt, Cream perked up. "He did? Oh, I knew he could do it! Mister Sonic is the best at everything!" Stars temporarily shone in the young rabbit's eyes. "Hehe..." Blaze chuckled. "Yeah, I guess he is." She smiled again, as her gaze wandered from the floor to the very aromatic clothes she was still holding, which reminded her of what she was supposed to be doing. "Uh, anyway, be back in a little bit!" She ran off from the doorway...and paused as it occured to her that she didn't know where she was going. Coming back to the bathroom door, she sheepishly asked, "...Where's the washing machine?" "Um...I don't know, Mister Chuck never showed me where it is. Maybe you should ask Mister Sonic?" Blaze scratched under her chin. "Yeah, that'd work. Thanks again Cream." She departed from the bathroom again and headed for where she left the blue hedgehog, finally bursting back into his room again with little fanfare. "Hey Sonic, I have a question for you."

Well, -that- was unexpected. Not only did he recieve a sincere hug for his efforts, but he also recieved a rather quick peck smack on the lips. As Blaze dashed off to find Cream, Sonic stood there, slightly dumbfounded. It wasn't like he was totally blown away, it was just... What had just happened was a little unexpected. He couldn't have prepared himself for that if he tried. "... ... ..." Sonic shrugged his shoulders. What is it that I do that always seems to attract the girls, huh...?Sonic disregarded the matter, as per usual, and walked around, trying to remember what it was that he was going to do.... Oh. Oh right. Blue-hair spray-on whatsit. .... But where did he put it...? He wouldn't get a chance to start searching though, as Blaze came back in the room, and said something to him. "Oh, w-wha..? A question? Well, by all means, shoot."

"Oh, a washer, huh..? Yeah, about that..." He pondered for a moment. "... Go down to the basement. It's a couple o' levels down... You'll go into the resturaunt area, but not actually -leave- the building... There's another level to head down to, and once you're there, you'll be in an area with some washing machines and stuff... But, uh, one word of caution." He raised a finger and waved it in her face. "There's a doorway leading into another room down there. I must ask you to, like... not go in that doorway. Get me?" His tone was rather serious. He gave Sally a 'Gimme a minute' type look, seeing as no one had answered her question.

Sonic gave her a stony expression; He looked absolutely -deadly- serious. "... ... ..." Then he busted out laughing. "Haha! Nah, of course not." He took a moment to catch his breath, before smiling innocently at her. "They're still alive." "... ... ..." He waited for a reaction, still giving her that deadly serious expression. Then he busted out laughing again. "Hahaha!! Nah, it's nothing, really. Uncle Chuck just doesn't want people going in there. It's his own private area. Rules are rules, you know."
