Just as she was being launched she reached out and grabbed the goggles off of the raccoon's head "Sorry, might need to borrow these!" Midnight curled herself into a blurry dark blue sphere as she shot through the air with the force of Gainsboro's throw. Reaching impressive height in record timing she uncurled, thrusting her wings out and catching the strong currents in them like a parachute. For a brief moment she was tossed to and fro before finally getting her bearings in place, wings slicing through the rough winds of the valley. As she began to circle around through the winds in search of Ray she placed the goggles over her eyes, finding them to be necessary with the amounts of debris in the air. As she did she also began sending off screeches of sonar every few minutes to locate him easier.

The flying squirrel grunted and cracked his eyes open. What WAS that obnoxious noise? Ray sat up, still holding his stomach, and peered out into the winds from his little cove. Much of the sickness had passed, but traces of it still lingered, and he wasn't about to push it. Ray crawled to the lip of the ledge and looked down, but didn't find anyone below. He twisted to look up, but the rockface extended too far and blocked his vision. Deciding there wasn't much more he could do beyond that, the squirrel returned to the back wall, propping against it once more and curling his arms and knees around the cyan jewel he carried.

The bat let off another sonar wave as she soared across the sky. Finally after what seemed like ages to her sore wings her ears twitched and turned like satellite dishes, picking up a suspicious bounce from somewhere below her. Something that wasn't made of rock, or grass, or metal. Something moving. She began to descend toward where the wave had come from, coming to the outcropping and landed less than gracefully from the force of the winds she had to fight with. Taking a moment to readjust the goggles she'd snatched off of Gains she sent out another sonar wave; revealing a ledge below where she was standing. Immediately she ran to the edge and lept off, gliding downward untill she landed on it. And there leaning against the back wall was the squirrel in question. "RAY!" she called out to him.

"I told you to leave," Ray hissed lowly from his huddled position. Not wanting to show weakness, the squirrel pushed himself to his feet, but did not have an easy time doing so. Even after standing, he still leaned back against the wall, his head pounding, his stomach churning, and his limbs shaking. I can't be seen like this... he thought, staring over at the bat at the cliff. His trembling hands wrapped themselves around the Sol Emerald. Please... Give me strength!!The jewel burst with light that even Ray had to recoil from, but as it shone, his ailments suddenly faded. The squirrel was delighted to find himself feeling better than any other time he could remember -- which only went back as far as that morning, but still. Ray stood up straight, without the assistance of the wall, and walked along the metal bridge, back to the grassy side of the outcrop. "Get out of here," he said again, the cyan gem continuing to glow brilliantly. "I can only ignore gnats for so long before I swat them."

"Yeah, and I might just swat back." she said stubbornly, falling into a faster paced step with him to catch up. "You listen to me buddy, you are gonna cool your heels and we are gonna talk about this, or I'm gonna hogtie and sit on you!" she said, planting her hand firmly on his shoulder.

The squirrel's fur bristled, and in a flash he had whipped around and snatched ahold of Midnight's wrist, already clenching hard enough to cut off her circulation. His dark eyes flashed angrily. "Did I not warn you," Ray growled, "that if you did that again, I would snap your bones?" His grip rapidly constricted tighter and tighter as the Sol Emerald pulsed excitedly.

Midi gasped in surprise and pain as she suddenly found her wrist being crushed. She gritted her teeth tightly and grabbed ahold of his arm trying to pry it off her. "DAMN YOU LITTLE FLUFFER I'M GONNA BEAT YOU OVER THE HEAD WITH YOUR OWN COFFEE POT!" she screeched frantically. Failing to wrench her arm away she let off a cry sounding somewhere like a cross between a snarl and a banshee's shriek, doing the only other thing her outraged and pained mind could think of at that moment. She bit down into Ray's forearm as hard as she could.

Ray's eyes widened in shock and pain, and letting out a panicked scream the squirrel immediately generated a vortex directly behind Midi to pull her off. "YOU STUPID WENCH!!!" he screeched, releasing his deathgrip on her wrist. " LET GO OF ME!!!"

But the bat wouldn't. And the insult only caused her anger to boil further, as a result she growled and wrenched her head a couple times, forcing her fangs to burrow even deeper into his skin.

The pain was unbearable -- far worse than anything he could remember experiencing. Ray screamed hysterically and upped the force of his vortex several times, constantly increasing the force until Midnight was finally ripped away. Unfortunately for him, 'ripped' was a literal term; with Midi's fangs embedded so deeply into his arm, they tore deep gashes as she was forced away. At the moment of his release, Ray fell backwards into the grass, still screaming loudly, and the light of his emerald immediately faded. His concentration completely broken, his ailments had all returned, and his vortex had vanished. The squirrel found himself in so much pain he couldn't believe that HE, the Pharaoh of the Winds, was experiencing it. Cradling his wounded limb tightly against his torso, Ray could only writhe in agony. The Sol Emerald arched whisps of cyan electricity, enticing him to recover with its power once again.

It was at that moment that Mighty arrived. "What's going on here?"

Midi's wings arched out and curved her way out of the vortex safely. She was expecting these attacks now and was in a warm enviroment, so combined with her agileness in flight gave her an advantage she didn't have before. "WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT YAPPING DOGS AND BITING?!" she shrieked, spitting out blood. She soared up and curved sharply back, divebombing directly at the squirrel, tackling him and grabbing for his emerald.

Ray cried out as the bat landed on him, and probably wouldn't have otherwise done much to fight back at that moment, but her lunge for the Sol Emerald changed things. Suddenly his eyes snapped open and he gave a hard pull on the cord around his neck, snatching the jewel from Midnight's grasping hands. A small arc of energy zipped up his arm, and Ray's eyes grew darker. Letting out an animalistic scream, the squirrel struggled feverishly with his attacker, apparently more for the sake of his sparkling treasure than himself.

BOOM!!!! With a sound of stone exploding, a large steel claw came ripping through the stones behind Ray and tried to grab him. [dice=6][rand=6405563919553092246664238360074377968280491795269459964031573527]

[dice=6] Ray let out a gutteral growl as the world, already growing dark as the sun disappeared over the horizon, got even darker with a new brute blocking the light. The squirrel, operating more on adrenaline than emerald energy, only caught a glimpse of a huge claw about to close around himself and the bat when he was already reacting. Holding the cord around his Sol Emerald in his mouth, he kicked Midi away from the fray while bracing his arms against the sides of the claw. His thin, unmuscular limbs quickly began to buckle, but with desperate screech he unwittingly drew power from the emerald again, and managed to hold the claw open. Ray's chest heaved, his heart racing within it. "I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU," he screamed, both panicked and pissed off, "TO GET THE HELL OUT OF MY KINGDOM!!!" Clenching his eyes shut, the air around the group began whipping wildly; the squirrel had hastily summoned a hurricane. [dice=6] The hurricane swept around violently tossing bricks and boulders, a few buffeting into Scorra. It started to make him angry inside the storm. But where there are clouds, there are shadows, and the lack of sunlight made Scorra all that much more meanacing. "Give me that emerald, Now! Or I'll peel it from what 's left of you." Scorra's tail wavered meanacingly, which is never a good thing. As demonstrated before he hardly uses his tail, because its power is difficult to control. Scorra reaches out to grab Ray in one claw, [dice=6] And Midi in the other. [dice=6][rand=19887672187904866716693044350181657237422486456023854102474801186]

From all the commotion, Dirk and Alicia finally managed to find Midi and the crazy squirrel. They landed, Alicia breathing slightly harder from having to carry Dirk all the way. They were just in time to see the massive scorpion make a grab for Midi and Ray.

[dice=6] First she'd been kicked away rather unplesently, and now she was being grabbed at. She made an effort to dodge, but the scorpion was too fast for her, snatching her and holding her with impressive strength. "PUT ME DOWN! PUT ME DOWN NOW!" she snarled and attempted to wiggle out of her captor's claw, looking rather grotesque with fresh blood smeared all around her face. Her wings flapped uselessly behind her.[rand=30078813145727157755052718021226156693459881310478971617348559968]

Mighty was not impressed. "Put her down. And I will not tolerate heavy violence!" Mighty planted himself firmly in front of Scorra. He didn't look very menacing at all, but there was a sense of firmness in his tone.

[dice=6] Ray may have avoided the first attack, but the second was just too fast, and the squirrel found himself tightly clenched within a gigantic claw. Growling and squirming frantically, Ray's attention quickly focused on the Sol Emerald, now dangling from his neck and -- due to his own winds -- threatening to fly away at any minute. Ray ignored all others long enough to again grab the harness cord in his teeth, then, panting wearily, retaliated with another harsh blast of dry, debris-filled wind directly into Scorra's face. [dice=6] "Now then...let's talk, shall we?" Scorra lifted Midi and Ray higher to look them in the eyes. "I have a test for you. It's quite simple. All you have to do is decide which is more important, your life, and hers, and the lives of all around here, or that gem. If you choose wisely, you will give that gem to me, and everything will be right again. Otherwise, you can keep the gem, and then everyone else I will crush before your eyes. You can be a Pharaoh of oblivion. Make your choice. Either way I'll be taking that jewel. But however many lives must be lost, yours included, to get it is up to you entirely."[rand=365478065489253941816659907432296443705000532196865459945355595887]

Midi stopped yelling and went silent for a moment, making sure she had just heard the scorpion correctly. A muscle under her eye twitched. "I AM NOT YOUR HOSTAGE YOU MUSCLEBOUND SIDESHOW REJECT!" She let off a screech of sonar like a banshee's wail into his face. [dice=6][rand=56907728368166193241899213838842528200396457512287144058907619576]

[dice=6] Scorra was annoyed by the noise, and he squeezed midi tighter. Tight enough to not hurt but be very uncomfortable. "Try that again, and they'll need to sew you together." Then he looks down at Mighty. "And you, don't try anything stupid. Why don'y you help your allies the way you should, and convince gildilocks here to surrender his emerald."[rand=556913392667722649541305691352395473874814593039643988419960956]

"Put her down. NOW." He slammed his fist into the ground, causing a large crack to appear and shaking underneath everyone's feet - but not enough to hurt anyone, "First of all, she is an innocent. Second of all, he's being posessed by that emerald, he doesn't care about anything, not even himself. And third of all - you are threatening to kill innocent people. HOW is that helping the situation?" He turned to Ray. "Ray, please let go of the emerald. You're going to get badly hurt - maybe even killed, if you don't."

The voices of the others seemed far away; Ray's chest heaved with rapid, ragged breaths, his eyes constricted with adrenaline and panic... or was this actually... Fear? He could not remember fear, but this sensation seemed oddly familiar. They're trying to take it away... I can't let them take it!! The squirrel's fur bristled slightly as his teeth clamped down even harder around the Sol Emerald's harness. They can't have it!! I won't let them!! I have to think of something!! But this big one is too heavy... My wind doesn't bother him... Ray looked quickly from side to side, trying to find something, anything, he could use. He kicked, squirmed, wiggled, and writhed, but couldn't loosen himself in the least. But in the midst of his struggles, when he was leaning all the way backward, he caught sight again (upside down this time) of the tornado, whirling and twirling not so far away. Ray's eyes narrowed cunningly, and the jewel hanging from his mouth began to give off another cyan glow...

Dirk drew out his slingshot, and loaded a rock into it, "Now listen here bigshot..." he said shakily, his arms trembling like leaves in the wind, "I didn't really like you when we first met, an I don't like you now. Killing that innocent bat girl is wrong and you know it. Wasn't it YOU in the first who said that these gems were evil in powerful in the first place?" remembering what Midi had said about Ray, he straightened his arm as best he could, "Maybe YOU'RE possessed too!"
Alicia stepped up, trying to get everyone to calm down, "Look, my friend and I have no idea what is up with these glowing gems, but killing innocent people for them is just wrong. If that squirrel is possessed, there must be a way to break its hold on him." A pause, "I've never been one for senseless killing, and I never will. And and I'm not going to see it happen in front of me!" she paused again, realizing she had mouth offed to a REALLY BIG SCARY DUDE who seems very likely to kill her any second.
"There has to be another way..." she mumbled, looking at them with pleading, frightened eyes.

Midi squeaked in pain and ceased her yelling, snapping her jaws at the scorpion defiantly reguardless. She glared at him through a widely barred snarl that stretched across her face and drew in quick and ragged, albiet restricted breaths with the sheer amount of anger and stress she felt. "I don't give a damn what you do to me, but I swear if you hurt my friends I will haunt you to your dying breath." she said in a low dangerous tone that sounded out of place to her previous screeching.

"Silence! All of you. I do not care about your cries for mercy. This is a basis of the greater good. If these jewels are not returned to Princess Blae, they could easily fall into the wrong hands. Has any one of you EVER considered a good greater than yourselves? I have. My entire LIFE has been based upon the greater good, and my loyalty is to my people...no...ALL the people in the world. And if a few of you want to try and sacrifice yourselves in the process, the so be it! But I WILL not take this jewel unless it is given. It's in my code of honor!"

The squirrel's brow furrowed in deep concentration as he continued to stare upside down at the tornado. Ray grunted as he focused unblinkingly on the twister, apparently going unnoticed by the others. Closer.... Just a little... closerrrrrrr..

"Are you even listening to yourself?! You're talking about the greater good, and protecting people, and honor code, and yet you're threatening to kill a bunch of people because one person has an emerald and is being corrupted by it! And clearly, if you really have any emeralds, they have fallen in the wrong hands, because you are dangerous! And we're not trying to hinder you from taking the emerald back, we just don't want you to kill everyone like you're planning to!"
