The moment Inari was knocked to the floor, the hedgehog was already there as well, speeding past the tumbling Legionnaire in an effort to U-turn up ahead, and then come barreling into the oncoming body whilst curled into a hi-speed ball of blue fur and fury. Oh -crap-. [dice=6][rand=11262917687586793261237748319892490639555125483126832788118978645]

[dice=6] However, Inari managed to quickly stop his tumble, ending up on his back facing the oncoming hedgehog. Quickly digging the claws of his right hand into the floor, he anchored himself and fired his feet jets at full blast, so that Sonic would now find himself heading straight for an inferno. [dice=6] "Would you two get off your genetically engineered rears and RUN SOME DEFENSE!?" he yelled at Facade and Paleo.[rand=928868629526163353043891657122685501146687704836991689529665935]

[dice=6]
To cue the term, for Inari, despite his valiant efforts, things were only just -heating up-. The moment he put those jets on to full, the blue blur managed to bump the floor at just the right moment to be sent bouncing up towards a nearby wall, away from the Legionnaire's defensive maneuver. The exact moment Sonic's own feet touched the wall, he sprung the muscles in his legs, causing his swift form to fly from the surface like a missile.
And, oh, lookie, he was heading right for Inari in one possibly near-devastating head-on tackle.

Elsewhere, speeding through the corridors of the base was an irate looking cobalt metallix. While his organic counterpart saw to the Dark Legion problem, Metal examined the base's blueprints and zipped around looking for a way to break into the Chaos Emerald's holding chamber. It was demeaning, really; why couldn't he have just been given access codes to override the lock? Surely there had to be some way to turn off the alarm after all. Shaking off his irritation he searched for a detail in the blueprints he had noticed - Ah ha! There we go. Peering into a small grate about the size of his fist, the map showing it lead to a small opening inside the chamber. It was inaccessible to most, but for the metallix, it was just what he needed. Liquefying his form he slipped inside.

[dice=6] HEDGEHOG MISSILE DENIED as a sudden pink blur (not Amy) rammed into Sonic midair, tackling him to the ground. Beak still pinned shut thanks to the chunk of metal impaled on it, the dinosaurian attempted to make the best of it and tried to whap the hedgehog around with said chunk of metal. Oh the hedgemanity! [dice=6] Meanwhile... Facade heard nothing of Inari's commands. In fact, he hadn't heard any since they'd arrived here, since soon after arriving he'd camo'd and wandered off on his own. Stealth was in his nature. Working with others... not so much. But, without the hindrance of the others (especially Paleo), or the hindrance of things such as locking joints, the chimera had actually... managed to make it to the emerald chamber with good time. Uncanny, really.[rand=912132767095559515894703374079366041718746289166728569147668424305]

"About time..." Inari muttered to himself. He got up and took barely a second to straighten his robes before dashing into the control room and sealing the door behind him. "Finally. Now, lets see about ending this..." Walking over to the controls, a panel in the top of his mechanical hand lifted up, extending a small computer probe which he quickly connected to the console...

"UGH--!!" The hedgehog was quickly knocked flat onto his back as a sudden foe appeared practically out of nowhere and promptly kept him from making the shot, nothing short of the characteristic of a brick wall. As Sonic shook the vapors out of his head, he realized that whatever had played defense just then wasn't exactly done with him yet. [dice=6] Acting quickly (as came naturally), the hedgehog kicked his legs up and threw himself into a backflip. The moment Paleo's beak-and-metal plate would have cracked the floor, Sonic landed firmly in a crouch, before kicking off with explosive force in a retaliation-tackle, spinning like a sawblade! Oozing through the opposite end of the grate, the metallix slipped down onto the floor where he began to rise up and take shape again. Motioning like he was about to go to where the emerald sat, the metallix paused in his tracks, staring in surprise at the room's other occupant. "... How did you get in here?!"

[dice=6] Unfortunately, as happens a lot to those in Sonic's sights, the living fossil didn't have the time to evade the hedgehog's attack. In fact, the only thing he really had time for was to make an expression of terror and give a muffled " MMPPH!"
The chimera said nothing as he crouched, poised to take the emerald. Instead, he just stared in surprise at the metallic newcomer. And then promptly melted out of the visible spectrum.[rand=47120238676238799028777296285452312005067367641559591522475740505]

"Now...what can I use here..." Inari said to himself as he sifted through the base's computers. "First...lets reset those targeting parameters..." Througout the base, all the eggpawns and other robots suddenly stopped, their eyes blinking off for a second as their programming was adjusted... "Now, lets see about getting into that emerald vault...ahh...now this could be useful..."

Sonic landed in a crouch, eyeing the stricken dino after having dealt a heavy blow. He exhaled with slight relief, putting out a usual smirk... which quickly faltered as the air suddenly grew quiet... that's when the hedgehog came to a realization. His former quarry had evaded his deserved beating, and took off behind now-closed doors of reinforced steel. ... ... ... That never stopped a hedgehog from trying, right? So, without further ado, hopefully before things could get too out of control... ... Sonic blasted forward at full-speed, hurtling his spinning sawbladed body... right for the not-so-reinforced portion of the wall right next to the sealed doorway. Meanwhile in the emerald room, the two occupants would hear a...slithering sound a few seconds before the covers of the air vents began popping open and disgorging hordes of caterkillers of various types that crawled, slithered, or flew out of the tunnels, making a bee line for Metal Sonic. "And not so fast hedgehog..." Inari said to himself as he took measures to delay Sonic as long as possible. Another platoon of Egg Pawns came around the corner and proceeded to open fire on Sonic. the metallix made a double-take at the sudden hoard, momentarily frozen to his spot in surprise. It was only a moment though, and when a binary command failed to call them off the situation became all too clear... and annoying. He needed to get out of there, fast. Turning back toward the glowing violet gemstone, eyes futility searching for the invisible chimera, he made a dive and attempted to wrap his talons around the prize they both sought. [dice=6] The hedgehog grunted loudly as he suddenly found himself being blown back by an onslaught of artillery from the wayward pawns, unable to complete his maneuver to bust the wall apart. Dashing down the hallway to put some distance between him and the pawns, he decided that the next best solution... was to U-turn, hit a speed snap, and charge back down towards the group of pawns whilst curled up into a hard-hitting hedgehog ball..! [dice=6] The pawns shattered like bowling pins hit with a super sonic bowling ball, thus he was able to plow right through them...except for the last one. For behind the rest was a large armored Hammer pawn, which waited to the last moment to swing its hammer in a very un-hammerlike fashion. "Fore!" Inari said with an evil smirk. [dice=6] In the meantime, with the emerald safely with Facade, the caterkiller swarmed at Metal, intending to overwhelm him with pure numbers. [dice=6] Metal growled in fury as the all powerful gem slipped out from beneath him, and even more as the hoard advanced. Swarming him would have been a great tactic had Metal's electrical shield not crackled to life. Rippling under the strain caused by the weight of bodies slamming against it and frying those unfortunate enough to be closest, Metal shot himself upward, his eyes darting around for the direction the emerald had gone... Thankfully, though the chimera was invisible, the emerald it held wasn't. Ignoring the onslaught of questions over how that... thing... had gotten in in the first place, he aimed a few homing attacks at the hoard of caterkillers, intent of using them as a bridge between him and his target. [dice=6] [dice=6] [dice=6] And assuming he succeeds... another swipe for the emerald! [dice=6][rand=9593684714682502973331447739725267273922201295295280958574091028]

Unfortunatly for Metal, he didn't make it more than part way before one of the flying caterkillers struck at him at just the right moment, knocking him out of his attack and into another one which clammped its jaws around his leg and attempted to pull him back into the swarm.

[dice=6] 'Fore' was right. ... Almost. The moment the hedgehog was stricken with the mallet, while being partially protected by his hi-speed spinning, his spherical form was sent flying... however, perhaps the hammer Pawn was just a touch off-center from his stroke -- Sonic didn't veer down the hallway, but rather, up into the ceiling, where he ricocheted off its surface, and then began bouncing maddeningly, up and down, repeatedly between top and bottom. As the bouncing continued, the speed increased, and before the hammer pawn knew what was coming, the almost-rubbery maneuvers of the hedgehog were soon to strike it upon it's steel dome with crushing force. [dice=6] Should the strike connect, Sonic would then bounce off of his downed quarry, and use the momentum to spear himself into Inari's current location with full power, hopefully taking out the worn-down obstruction in his way to get into the room.[rand=3840037011476755731397826858436284350511957043993072849228131838061]

Suddenly, something tried to lock Inari out of all the consoles within reach. Whatever it was, it was fast, and definitely not your standard anti-hacking firewall. [dice=6]
At the same time, the same whatever-it-was now was attempting to take control of the AWOL badniks through the network, so that even if it couldn't keep Inari out soon enough, it could at least return order to the base. [dice=6][rand=63735480725220468842847324951810110540177332237926092390425825]

[dice=6] Unfortunatly for Sonic, this was one of the helemeted models, which meant that by slaming himself onto its head, he'd just impailed himself on a group of small spikes... [dice=6][dice=6] Inari, meanwhile, was surprised at the sudden intrustion, but quickly reacted, employing countermeasures to allow him to keep control...and sending a power surge to whichever terminal he was being attacked from, sure to blow out the circuits of the terminal, and whatever hacking tool was being used. [dice=6] Whatever this defense system was, it apparently wasn't affected by Inari's powersurge, easily circumventing it like one would walk around a downed bridge. [dice=6][dice=6] The hedgehog just -barely- managed to place his hands and feet upon non-spiked portions of the robo's helmet, and kept himself from becoming a hedgehog shishkabob right then and there. He let out the 'too close' whistle, looking around to try and locate his true quarry. The robot may as well be a decoy... Sonic panted, and glanced down at the helmet below him. If I keep wasting the minutes trying to beat these guy's faces in, I'm gonna lose track of the real deal, here...!He eyed the robot down below, quirking a brow. If he didn't know any better, he'd have to say that it was... hesitating...? "..." An Eggman robot, hesitating to attack him? Crap, if only more of -those- guys were around... Sonic wasted no time, and fixed himself into a position to leap cleanly from atop the spiked headwear, and as soon as he landed, the blue blur threw himself fast into the already-worn down walls of Inari's current position, giving the spin of his attack all that he had to offer..! That wall's comin' down -- No more nice guy for you, fella...![dice=6][rand=88723261216390037765862512867936435815084413311747614737348594963]

A growl emanated from the pile of badniks elsewhere; bits of caterkillers scattered as Metal Sonic smashed them at their weak points, only to have more replace them. But just as it seemed he was about to be overwhelmed... They all fell lifeless. Perplexed, but counting his blessings, Metal kicked at and tossed those whose offline bodies still clung to him. Fighting his way back to his feet, his set ignited, and he hovered a couple of feet above to get a look around. That was also when he activated his emerald radar... and noticed his target was still in the room. Despite the fact the gemstone was currently invisible in Facade's possession, the metallix made a dive to tackle the chimera and wrench it away.

(Not going to bother rolling because I don't want to prolong this) A raspy, startled gasp sounded from the (seemingly) air the metallix tackled, followed by (well, perhaps not followed but in sync) the sound of the Emerald falling to the ground and rolling off. The chimera had been hoping that the robot would give up and leave, allowing him to leave as well. Sadly that seemed not to be the case. Invisibly Facade's eyes widened as he watched the now visible Emerald roll away, before turning his attention and aggression to the robot that had caused his slip up. By biting it. Oh wait, it's metal...

"Chaos damn it all!" Inari exclaimed, disengaging from the computers as he suddenly foundhimself locked out completely. ...Without his control over the base's robots, he didn't see any way to overcome their opponents. And it galled him to have to do this but... "Facade, Paleo...fall back, retrieve the emerald if you can," he sent over his comm, the words like pulling teeth. He then quickly reached over and flicked the switch to open the doors to the control room, and dashed out while the hedgehog was busy tearing down the wall to get in.[rand=61110022547090212389530711543151332099091907358328937341549986245]

Sonic certainly made a mess of that wall. Iron and steel fell into the control room amidst clouds of dust and debris, and one could have sworn that bits of fire drifted through the chaotic environment... The moment he was able to get back to his feet and take note of his surroundings, he realized a couple of important details... The doors were open. Whoever was in here took advantage of that fact.Cursing a bit under his breath, Sonic gave the area one last sweep before dashing out the door to give chase, the dust swirling in the blue wind behind him.

Biting the metallix proved to be an ill effective strategy, as Metal simply jerked the chimera off of him. Spotting the emerald rolling across the floor, his digital eyes grew bright, and in an instant he leapt away from Facade. His talons stretched toward the glowing gem... "CHAOS... CONTROL!" With the utterance of that phrase, a bright flash of Chaos energy enveloped Metal. In an instant he found himself standing within the room he could have sworn Sonic was supposed to be in. Signs of a fight were evident, but his doppelganger was not to be found. His eyes dimmed in irritation. Until he noticed something. A familiar signal he hadn't expected to find. He turned, glancing around, until he pinpointed its direction. <What are you doing here, Dale Doll?> he transmitted toward the signal's source.

The Tails Doll looked back at Metal, appearing collected and creepy as ever. Nudging himself slightly in a direction, the Doll revealed a terminal behind him. <Unit Tails Doll was enacting counter-measures against the mainframe hacker and other invaders. The counter-measure appears to have been a success; control of the badniks has been reclaimed.> The Doll transmitted back to the metallix. Noting the Emerald signature around Metal, Tails Doll continued, <Protecting the Emerald was successful?>

((Meh. I'm invoking the inactivity clause)) The robohog glanced down at the glowing purple gemstone in his talon. <Affirmative. My orders were to retrieve the Emerald before this invasion. I am also under orders to escort Sonic back to the submarine base as per a truce,> he glanced back at the room, and the various directions his hedgehog counterpart could have run off to. <Can you locate him? I am in no mood to go tracking him down...>
