(One shot)
Thousands of light-years Bogert had traveled to get to this planet, and several months he had spent getting settled in. He had documented the history of the planet, closely monitored its environmental conditions, and even mingled with its inhabitants.
While there was still much he didn’t know, he felt that he had the planet under his thumb, knowledge-wise. However, fate has a funny way of throwing curveballs.
In his observations, Bogert had noticed in the past few weeks a growing phenomena- small rips in the fabric of time and space, but seemingly only localized to this particular planet (he had, just to check his theories, sent a droid into orbit to watch for any rips off-planet. So far, none had been sighted).
Rips weren’t uncommon to this planet. There had, (or were), rips on this planet leading to a “Sol” dimension. However, the Sol dimension was nearly identical to this one with a few minor details changed- these new rips led to someplace far different.
Sending observational units through the rips, he’d seen many strange things. He saw fish that flew, plants that actively hunted, villages hidden in nooks and crannies, cities of metal that spewed poison waste into the air, vast expanses of wasteland, and quite a variety of machines of war.
Yes, this was certainly not the Sol dimension or anything like it.
Bogert wondered… how long would it take before someone accidentally stepped through one of these portals? He’d found them when they were just starting to tear open, when they were barely detectable. Now they shrank in grew in multiple places, and really, it seemed only a matter of time before things began to… cross over.
