(Oneshot)
Bogert had managed to bring Dash back to his ‘base’ without incident, however, there was a problem now.
Mainly, how would the robian react once re-activated? From what Bogert knew, organics had no ‘set’ reaction to anything, they could react to anything in any given way, which is one of the things that made them so hard for him to figure out. Plus, he didn’t know this fellow very much, which didn’t help.
Bogert’s human shell crouched before the deactivated figure of the mechanical tenrec, and after another moment of thought, decided the only way he’d find out was to take a chance, and that he’d get nowhere if he didn’t. With a small poke and tiny spark of electricity later…
The robian sprang back to ‘life’. The tenrec met the ‘human’s’ gaze, and his red LED eyes glowed fiercely. For a few moments, he did nothing. Then…
“You lied to me.”
Bogert leaned back onto the soles of his mechanical shell’s feet. “I didn’t lie, it w-“
He didn’t get to finish the sentence. The robian had lunged at him before he could, it’s fingers flipped into tool mode as a form of claws, and quite obviously intending to maul him.
“LIAR!”
Ah. Rage. That was how he would react. Despite the outburst, Bogert was not startled, instead, rather quickly, tapping the robian again before he could do any damage. Once again, he went still. This time, instead of fully deactivating the robot, Bogert had simply disabled his ability to move. He’d need time to explain things, and he needed the robian to listen instead of try and attack him. “I’m very sorry for all that,” he apologized, setting the mechanical tenrec back into a sitting position, “but you need to calm down. I haven’t lied to you, I don’t want to lie to you, and lying to you doesn’t get me anywhere anyway. But I do need you to understand what really happened, alright?”
He returned his shell to a crouched position in front of the mechanical tenrec, and made an expression that he’d hoped came across as ‘sincere concern’.
“What happened was an accident. It was due to my own foolishness, and I will admit it. It hadn’t been intended to happen, and I wouldn’t want to do such a thing to an innocent person… or any person, for that matter.”
His shell sighed.
“Now, if you want, we can try again, but if you really do not believe my sincerity, the offer still stands for me to return you home. This time, however, I believe I’ve worked out all the kinks in the system. See, I had failed to take into account the nanites and h-“
He paused, realizing that the person he was talking to probably would not understand.
“… well, I won’t get into that. But it’s fixed. And if it’s not, I’ll continue fixing it until it does what I’ve promised you to I’d do. Unless you don’t want it, which in that case I’ll take you home, like I said I would . … and I’m also sorry for disabling you like this, as well. But I needed you to listen, and I need you to calm down, and I need you to think of what I offered. I’ll give you some time to think about it and then I’ll restore your ability to move to you, and then whatever you decide to do, we’ll do, alright?”
The mechanical tenrec couldn’t respond, of course, but a response wasn’t necessary. Standing back up, Bogert’s human shell walked away. He frowned to himself as he did so… in a way, he was lying to the tenrec. But not about what the tenrec thought he was… but rather lying about being an organic, and human, and... well, it wasn't the issue right now, really.
Minutes passed, and Bogert had his shell return, crouching again to be level with the robian.
“I hope you’ve decided now. I’m going to reactivate you now, and please don’t be angry.”
He reached forward and gave the mechanical form another tap.
And, again, the robian stirred to ‘life’, and, again, his eyes glowed angrily. “I’m going home.”
Bogert frowned again as he stood up, “Alright… if that’s what you want then.” He turned and made his way towards the door, not getting far before realizing he wasn’t being followed. “You’d have to come with me if you want to go home. But not too far, there’s a portal nearby…”
The robian turned to look at him from where he sat, his eyes dimming to a tamer intensity. “…”
“… well?
“You really would take me home if I wanted you to…”
“It’s what I said I would do, yes. Now are you coming?”
The robian shook his head. “… no, I believe you, at least… now I do. I just… I wanted to see if you’d try and talk me out of it, if you were trying to make me stay against my will so you could continue to torture me or…” he looked at the ground and for awhile, it seemed he wouldn't continue speaking, but he did. “But I guess you’re sincere. So I’ll stay. I really want to be… myself again. Normal. Not a robot. When I was before, I… I really enjoyed it. And I was really happy. And when it backfired, I felt like you’d betrayed me… but… I guess you didn’t.”
“This time it shouldn’t ‘backfire’… I can’t make guarantees, but I’ve taken every conceivable thing into account, and I’ve even put in safeguards just to make sure. Are you sure you don’t want to go home?”
Dash nodded. “Yeah. I’m sure…”
“Then we may as well get to work.”
Again, Bogert had led the robian to the roboticizer, and again the mechanical tenrec submitted himself to the process.
This time, there were some slight differences… instead of the frightfully cold feeling from before, it was rather painful burn of an intensity that, even once deroboticized, the tenrec had to lay still and recover from.
“… ow.”
“Sorry. That was probably due to the precautions I took this time around.”
“That… that’s alright.” He lifted his hand to his face, happy to see it was once again organic, but… noticing something quite odd.
“… why am I white.”
“… er… also… due to precautions”
“…”
“… sorry.”
The (now albino) tenrec sat up. “WELL, if it’s the least that happens to me, then I guess I can live with it. … its… er… not permanent, is it?”
“… the pigment cells in your body most likely were fried when the nanites were being eliminated… so… it may or may not be.”
“… oh. Well, like I said… as long as it’s the worst thing that happens…”
