Wright, who by now had managed to put out the flames surrounding his feathery body, seemed to have regained his composure. "Fair is fair," he began, "and that's a point I can't argue with. "However, I need to raise the question of how we're going to obtain information from this piece of evidence. Will Metal Sonic simply be questioned like a witness, or will data be retreived directly from the hard drive?" Smacking his palms against the table, this time far more gently than a moment ago, the phoenix continued, "In the interest of keeping the data unbiased to either side, I hereby petition the court to bring in a forensic computer scientist to retreive any usable information from Metal Sonic's hard drive!"

While the three argued Metal had turned his back to the courtroom, folding his arms and doing what appeared to be some form of meditation - which, in a way, wasn't far from the truth. A horizontal line stretched across his LCD eyes indicating that he was on stand-by mode; an obvious means of trying to keep his temper under control. His cooling fan could still be heard whirring softly in his cranium, and every so often he would seem to twitch as the electrical outputs to his body overloaded in spurts. However, as Wright's last words filtered through his hearing, the metallix snapped out of his trance. His eyes returned to their familiar red half circles, though seemed to glow at a higher intensity than normal, and he quickly looked up at Eggman with a vigorous shake of his head.

Eggman glanced at Metal and turned back to Wright. "That will not be necessary. Even if it were, I doubt anyone but a genius of a programmer could analyze Metal's systems... Regardless, Metal himself has the capability of interfacing with other computers. All we have to do is retrieve a projector and another computer, and Metal can give us his account... through video evidence! There's no way I could have altered or staged this video... This should remove any concerns of bias. Unless the defense has any objections?"

"Why should we believe that there's no way you could have altered things just because you say you couldn't? Additionally, why should we believe that your robot would project the whole truth, and not simply the highlights that support you?" The attorney's eyes centered upon the judge. "There is still too great of a conflict of interest here! The defense demands an unbiased third party to retreive this data! Eggman can't be the ONLY computer expert in the world!!"

"......" The judges eyes opened suddenly, and... pray tell, it almost looked like the man hadn't been paying attention. "Oh, excuse me. I was... lost in thought for a moment, due to the discussion that had been going on..." What on earth...? Come on, man, you're the -judge-! Stay focused! "Do not worry; I have heard both sides, and I understand the situation clearly. As credible of a robotics genius as you might be, Prosecution, I am inclined to understand Wright's side perfectly well. ... And it has reminded me that, some time ago, I recall hearing on the news about a young boy's bright mind that happened to save the entirety of Station Square from a missile set to explode. One that was crafted by your own genius, doctor." With a nod the judge looked down upon Wright, and raised an eyebrow. "If you want my suggestion, Mr. Wright, I'd suggest, perhaps, calling upon one Miles Tails Prower." Wait, what? Hey! The judge had an idea of his own. ... Looks like he's relishing in that particular fact...

Wright's angular eyes widened slightly at the suggestion. He, too, had heard many headlines about the kit. Tails was still young, but by no means inexperienced; as the phoenix understood it, that prodigy had been building complex computer systems from scratch for years, without any outside assistance. And he had cracked many of Eggman's own programs. "I think that's a brilliant idea," the attorney replied with a confident smile. "The defense calls for an emergency subpoena of Miles "Tails" Prower to extract data from Metal Sonic's system!"

"A-are you serious?! Why should I trust that fox boy anywhere NEAR Metal?! He could put a virus on his system, or some sort of tracking program! Besides, even if he didn't harm Metal, who's to say he'd tell the truth? He's made his opposition to me all too clear in the past!"

"..." Metal's fists tightened. He had had just about enough listening to this debate. It was his programming, his mind they were talking about tampering with! He wasn't even comfortable with letting Eggman mess with his precious hard drive! His eyes began flashing again, though not to the extremes they had earlier. This was more subtle; seething. Once again the metallix found himself struggling; submit himself to this ridiculous humiliation, because of his place as a tool, or protest against it. The answer seemed to become clear as a torrent of resentment crashed against his pride. "I am not going to allow that fox to examine me!" he suddenly shouted, eyes very bright.

The judge shook his head, and sighed, glancing up at the heavens, as if asking for some kind of mercy from the headache that was to come. "I have to say that the thought occurs to me that if what you say for your side is as true as you say, then you shouldn't be worrying so much about you, Tails, or even me taking a look through things. What is it that you're so afraid of? Tampering? This is a court of -law-. If -Anything- along those lines were to happen, I, the overseer of this trial, would notice, and pass down my judgement upon the individual immediately. No tampering. No lies. Nothing, but the truth. And we are going to retrieve that, Mr. Metal Sonic..." "... Whether this is a foreign concept to you or not, we -will- perform the necessary duties as upholders of justice. In this courtroom, that is what we're going to do. If you refuse to let an outside biased source take a look at you, then I will have to disregard you as a witness, as evidence, as -anything-... except a waste of this court's time, and that would mean that you, Mr. Eggman, would have very little case to stand on." The judge cleared his throat, and slammed the gavel onto his desk. "It -is- my decree that Miles Tails Prower, or any other well-reknowned outside source, -will- perform an examination of Metal Sonic. If the prosecution continues to refuse, then I cannot accept Metal for -anything- that alludes to this case. That is -final-."

"THAT IS NOT FAIR!" Metal roared angrily in protest. "How would you feel if someone tried to give YOU a lobotomy?! Or... or..." he struggled to find another good analogy an organic could hopefully relate to. "... Or saw you in your undergarments!"

"... ... ... ... ..." Wright firmly clamped a hand over his beak. This was a very serious matter, but, that was a VERY unexpected sentence to come form a robot. Now would not be an opportune time to laugh, especially when the judge was ruling in his favor. But still, that was really funny.

((Last post, then Ishnt can have a go. Sorry! I had to do this.)) The judge could only flatstare at the metallic hedgehog within his sights. "Do not even begin to start complaining about what exactly is fair and what is not, Metal Sonic! If you're going to start whining about one's self privacy, I -will- remind you that the police created 'cavity searches' for similar reasons. What we are going to conduct here today will hardly be 'unfair'."

Eggman glared at the judge, his eye visibly twitching. "Unfortunately... I am afraid the judge has a point. As much as I detest this turn of events, I will allow it. However, while you may trust Tails... I do not. As such, I wish to oversee the data extraction, and reserve the right to cross-examination should he say anything... shall we say, unusual." Eggman leaned forward on his arm, a displeased look still on his face. "Just as a precaution, of course."

Jonas sighed, but avoided the urge to bash his head against the table. "Great, we're gonna be here until next year" DUN DUN DUUUUNNNMeanwhile near the back of the courtroom amongst the few press members that had been allowed in, a certain red-haired ground squirrel subtly slipped her phone out of her pocket and fired off a text message. A few hours later, there was a disturbance in the back of the courtroom as a certain two tailed fox that they'd been talking about was ushered inside.

And the fox in question did NOT look happy at the prospect of being here. Of course, this was rather vague as to his expressions or feelings, because he was, in fact, not angry, which is the usual assumption when someone is not happy. He probably would have been angry if not for the debriefing he had been given by the GUN agents in the helicopter. Instead, the kit looked tense, clutching some tools he had with him far tighter than necessary. Tails could feel his stomach clenching and unclenching rythmicly as he thought about why he was here. The thought of Eggman sueing someone was ludicrous in itself, but having the fox be KITNAPPED kidnapped and used as a third party to extract data from a piece of evidence that was a sentient and very tempermental robot that could easily maim him as merely glower at him sent shivers down his spine. And now, looking into the courtroom (and getting a slight thrill from seeing THE Wright the Pheonix in person and not just in courtroom TV shows), the vulpine couldn't help it when his fur ruffled as he locked his gaze onto Metal Sonic. He wanted nothing to do with this incredibly stupid trial, and yet, the opportunity of being able to dig into a robot's brain- Eggman's robot- enigmatic Metal Sonic- was too much of a temptation for the kit to try and ditch the place and hide until they found someone else to do it. And so he stood there, meek and quiet, tools in hand.

Tails squirmed- not because of the uncomforting atmosphere of the room, but because the Judge had used his proper name. " ... It's Tails..." He mumbled, before looking up to gaze at the intimidatingly-bearded human. "... Would I be extracting the data here or... are we going to be granted a private room nearby?" the way he asked the question made it seem like he didn't like either option. He felt so uncomfortable in public -especially TELEVIZED public- but he didn't appreciate being alone with Eggman and Metal Sonic either.

"This is a public matter. I say we conduct the extraction publicly." Eggman narrowed his eyes. "I don't think it's any secret that there may be a conflict of interests here. It's quite possible the foxboy would tell half-truths in order to humiliate me. Even if..." The doctor's voice took on a tone with as much menace as he could muster, and his glasses flashed. "...it wouldn't be in his best interests, shall we say."

NOW he's suddenly up-in-arms about a conflict of interest, Wright silently grumbled with a roll of his eyes. What a hippocrit hypocrite. The last comment from the prosecution's bench sharply caught the phoenix's ear, and the attorney's attention whipped over at his opponent. That was very obviously a veiled threat, however thin the veil may be, but raising an objection could easily work against him in this situation. There was no way to actually prove Eggman's true intentions, and Wright had little doubt that the doctor's famed 300 IQ would find a way to turn the judge's patience against him if he made a failed attempt to do so. Wright instead favored a more covert tactic. "I agree that Miles Prow-- er, excuse me, Tails Prower, should perform the extraction here in the public eye, and furthermore propose that he be supervized by G.U.N. technicians while he is to do so." Turning to eye the nervous kit, he mentally added, It'll be safer for you that way.

Tails felt his back shudder as he noticed Eggman's smile. "I just want to get this over with..." he grumbled, casting a small glare towards Eggman. Sure, Eggman was evil and had probably done it on purpose, but the kit still felt insulted at how Eggman implied that Tails would do something unlawful... under the very nose of the LAW. He hoped he wouldn't find anything incriminating that squirrel, for the fox desperately wanted that grin wiped off of Eggman's face. Plus, he always enjoyed watching Wright beat the snot out of the prosecution on TV. He didn't want to be the reason that the pheonix LOST a case.

This brought a series of groans from about the room, mostly from the defendant, who wanted this nightmare over and some of the reporters in the back, who wanted to get a ruling already so they could get their stories in, but also from a reporter who wasn't a reporter who now had to subtly call in more resources.
A while later, a pair of agents from GUN had arrived as requested and they could continue.

Watching as a table was set up, Metal's eyes pulsated subtly with pure outrage, glancing between Eggman and the agents several times. Was Eggman really going to force him to go through with this? Force him to sacrifice his dignity for the sake of his own ego...? Did he even need to ask? Of course the answer was yes. Clenching his fists together tightly he made his way over once the table was finished, and with a mental storm of cursing in every direction he could think of hoisted himself on top. Crossing one leg over another and propping his head up with one hand he unintentionally struck a very Sonic-like pose and began to bob his foot impatiently. "Get this over with," he hissed. " And I swear if you touch anything other than that file..."

Tails had been walking over towards Metal and the table rather tentatively, but when the robohog uttered the threat, the fox stopped altogether. He was right, so incredibly right, when he thought that digging around in Metal's brain was extremely risky, despite the obvious temptation and the GUN soldiers nearby. And Metal's threat only served to unnerve the kit further, making his already disheveled fur flare out to such extremes that he was now making an incredible impression of a dandelion puff. "... Iwon't." Tails squeaked, and walked even more slowly the rest of the way once he plucked up the courage and his fur had calmed down a bit. His hands were trembling visibly by the time he reached Metal, and the fox took a couple deep breaths to calm himself, constantly thinking to himself 'It's just a robot, it's just a robot, nothing to be worried about.' Tails didn't actually believe this, but he had to convince himself of its safety in order to not screw up. Or worse- freak out and do something he'd regret. Eventually, the self-brainwashing technique began to take effect, and the mechanic's hands steadied considerably. Miles 'Tails' Prower set to work, extracting the specified file from Metal's memory. Of course, the curious kit couldn't help but take slight glances elsewhere, the internal workings of the robot, too interesting to just ignore them. Metal continued to bob his foot, and a rapping noise soon joined it as he took to drumming his talons impatiently. While most of his focus was turned on monitoring the kit spelunking in his hard drive, he also idly glanced around the courtroom. Aside from Tails the reporters present were probably the thing annoying him the most at that particular moment. No doubt this was going to be all over the news for weeks... A barely audible but very irritated and restless growl suddenly escaped him, no doubt probably scaring the crap out of Tails. The press weren't going to see this footage were they...? That day and the virus he had to put up with during that fight had been humiliating enough already. Metal's growl did indeed frighten Tails, making a shudder ripple down the kit's back, not realizing that the reason wasn't -entirely- his fault. The fox suppressed the urge to tuck tails and run, and continued to sift, or spelunk as Metal put it, through the metallix's files. The complexity of the robot's hard drive astounded Tails, adding on yet another inch of respect for Eggman's intelligence. Tails could build planes, program spy-bots, and even create phony Chaos Emeralds, and yet the hard drive before him seemed beyond his experience. Of course, there was no more time to ponder creating his own sentient robot, as Tails finally found the data he was supposed to be looking for. He checked the cables and the small television he had hooked up to make sure the connection was stable, selected an approximate time from the file, and started up the video feed. It was instant action from the beginning. One of Eggman's mechs which Tails knew to be an Egg Viper, though sans Eggman as the pilot, crashed into the room the TV was viewing. Shadow suddenly popped into view, and kicked the machine just before a voice sounded out, along with lazer fire from the Egg Viper. "Hey Doctor, get a load of this!" shouted the voice. Tails didn't recognise it, though he had a bad feeling that it had been the defendant who said that. After the initial attack though, it became an all out brawl with Shadow, Eggman, the Egg Viper, and Metal, attacking so fast that what Tails was seeing almost looked like a movie. After Metal's lazer attack failed, another shout issued from the pilot of the Egg Viper. "You're going to pay for what you've done to Station Square!" The accusation then started off an argument between Eggman and the pilot about the events when Chaos was on the rampage. But, quickly after the exchange, the fight was over, with Eggman, Metal, and Shadow as the apparrent victors. Tails groaned inwardly as the pilot was revealed to indeed be the defendant, and then almost as quickly had to stifle a giggle when he heard a loud sneeze -and a spurt of oil- issue from the camera's source. And then Tails visibly drooped as he heard the newest incriminating phrase yet. "I'm his mechanic. And I think I made my motives pretty clear during the fight, don't you think?" Tails heard the defendant say, and afterwards heard little else. It wasn't possible. Eggman was... INNOCENT! And this squirrel had tried to kill him. Numbed with the realization that the squirrel was, to put it lightly, DOOMED, Tails let the recording play on, until the sound of yet ANOTHER battle caught his large ears. As Tails glanced up he saw that, not only was Omega suddenly there, but apparrently Shadow had waffled sides. And, without warning, Tails' namesakes bristled to their fullest as he grabbed the TV and peered into it, not caring that the loud sounds and bright lights were hurting his senses. Omega had just fired off a huge barrage of missiles towards a badly damaged Eggman mech which the doctor was piloting. But Eggman's immenent doom wasn't the shocker. It was the fact that the camera, or rather Metal, put itself right between the death barrage and Eggman. The camera went dark... And a severely loud explosion made Tails squeak and jump back from the TV, clapping his hands over his ears. As the smoke cleared, the camera flickered briefly before dying out altogether, this time the sound along with it. With stunned silence, Tails casually turned off the feed, slack-jawed at what he had just witnessed from Metal's own memory. He... he saved Eggman's life.
